modern home design with a large fireplace and large exterior doors

Trends for Indoor/Outdoor Living

Craving fresh air and more natural light? Patio doors and moving glass walls blur the lines between the indoors and your landscape, connecting you to the world outside.
These spaces have become a valued extension to our homes, used for entertaining family and friends and reconnecting us with nature.

There are many different styles of doors to choose from – here’s a brief description of each:

Ask yourself these questions when considering which type of door works best for your space and lifestyle:

How big of an opening do you have?
Do you want a clear, unobstructed view?
Are you replacing a current window or door, or are you building a new space?
What’s your style – traditional, modern or something in between?

Folding, Lift and Slide and Multislide doors are ideal for large expanses of glass and open views. Folding Outswing doors also work well in a remodel, because they run along a single track and don’t require an extra thick wall, which would be needed for a big door that pockets (disappears into the wall), or a Multislide that stacks to one side.

French doors add traditional charm – they swing inward and outward and are ideal for smaller spaces. Sliding or gliding doors are also a great option for both small and large openings. They can be designed with 2, 3 or 4 panels and can be both modern or traditional. Many French Doors and Sliding Patio Doors are also available with privacy options such as blinds-between-the-glass.
