WindowRama offers the complete line of quality, energy-efficient Andersen windows and patio doors. Andersen builds finely-crafted wood windows and doors in thousands of sizes and styles, with energy-efficient High-Performance® Low-E insulated glass for Energy-Star rated winter and summer comfort and economy. Andersen windows and patio doors feature natural wood interiors, and low-maintenance exteriors that never need painting. And, you can further accent your home with beautiful Andersen hardware options that are available in a variety of styles to fit any home style and decor.

Andersen 200 Series vs. Andersen 400 Series

Both series of windows offer strong durability, Energy-Star certified high-performance energy efficiency insulated glass, and are built with low-maintenance materials that can be upgraded. However, the 200 series offers fewer customization options than the 400 series in order to provide a more affordable option for homeowners.

Andersen 200 Series Windows & Doors

Our customers at Windowrama often use the 200 Series in locations such as a laundry room, basement or garage. The profiles match the 400 Series windows, but without all the other options. It’s a cost-effective way to match other windows in the home in those rooms that are not utilized as often. Many homeowners choose to upgrade their original Narroline windows with a conversion kit that increases energy efficiency and allows both sash to tilt-in for easy cleaning.

Why Choose Andersen 200 Series

The Andersen 200 series window offers budget-friendly alternative to the 400 series, featuring wood windows with PermaShield vinyl-clad exterior and more limited customization while offering the same high quality expected from Andersen products. The Andersen 200 series features:

  • Wood interior, vinyl-clad exterior
  • Focused selection of styles and sizes (to keep costs lower)
  • Good balance of affordability and performance
  • Energy-efficient glass options

Andersen 400 Series Windows & Doors

The 400 Series is Andersen’s most popular line of windows with both homeowners and contractors. This line comes in stock sizes, many of which are available for immediate pick-up or delivery from WindowRama’s warehouse. Custom sizes are also available. The Tilt-Wash double hung window is extremely popular as both sash tilt-in for easy cleaning. The Woodwright double hung offers both stock and custom sizing and features a low-maintenance Fibrex exterior. Both Tilt-Wash and Woodwright double hung windows offer a new construction and insert window option. Customers looking to upgrade their windows without causing disruption to the interior of their homes often select the insert option. Another benefit of choosing Andersen 400 Series is the support offered for replacing parts and hardware – Andersen makes it simple to identify parts as far back as 1992.

Why Choose Andersen 400 Series?

The Andersen 400 series is best for homeowners looking for dependable, high-quality windows without going ultra-premium. The 400 series offers:

  • Wood interior, vinyl-clad exterior (strong and low-maintenance)
  • More customization than the Andersen 200 series, less than Andersen E series or Andersen 100 series
  • Excellent weather resistance
  • Trusted go-to for decades

WindowRama stocks thousands of Andersen 400 and 200 Series windows at our Edgewood, NY distribution center which are ready for pick-up or quick delivery.

Andersen 400 vs. 200 series windows are mainly different due to their customization, styles, and construction. The Andersen 400 series windows offer a much wider range of customization options from different sizes, to colors, grille patterns, glass options, and more!

The 400 series also features Andersen’s proprietary Fibrex® material on its Woodwright windows with vinyl cladding on the exterior that resists rot and requires low maintenance. The 200 series is a more affordable option with common sizes and has a wood interior and a vinyl exterior.

The Andersen 400 series Woodwright window has a Low Maintenance Fibrex® exterior and wood interior while the Andersen 100 series uses entirely Fibrex® material. The 400 series also has many more customization options while the 100 series is significantly more limited to only a few colors, styles, and hardware options. For a more premium look and feel choose the 400 series. For a more budget friendly option with strong lasting material that is twice as strong as vinyl, the 100 series may be a better choice.

The 400 series being the best selling window option offers a wide variety of window styles including:

  • Tilt-Wash Double-Hung
  • Woodwright® Double-Hung (a traditional, full-frame option)
  • Casement (crank-out)
  • Awning (hinged at the top, cranks out from the bottom)
  • Gliding (slides side-to-side)
  • Picture (stationary/non-opening)
  • Bay & Bow (combinations that extend beyond the wall)
  • Specialty Windows (non-opening windows in custom shapes like curves and angles)

The Andersen 200 series offers more limited styles than that of the 400 series. The 200 series includes:

  1. Double-Hung Windows:
    • Feature two operable sashes that slide up and down.
    • Often include a tilt-wash design for easy cleaning from the interior.
  2. Gliding (Sliding) Windows:
    • Open horizontally, with one sash sliding past the other.
    • Ideal for spaces where a window should not open outward (like near a walkway).
  3. Picture Windows:
    • Fixed (non-operable) units designed to maximize light and frame a view.

Andersen windows are known for durability, and the actual lifespan depends heavily on the materials, installation quality, maintenance, and climate.

Since both the 400 Series and 200 Series utilize a wood interior with a vinyl exterior cladding, their projected lifespans are generally estimated to last 30 years or more with proper maintenance.

With regular care and maintenance, both series are built to last for several decades. The difference in construction (like the composite vs. wood sill) may affect the longevity of specific components, but both are considered long-term investments.

The standard warranty terms for both series are:

  • Glass: 20-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects that cause material obstruction of vision from seal failure.
  • Non-Glass Components: 10-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for components other than glass (including hardware, weatherstripping, frame members, etc.).

WindowRama is also proud to offer our own extended warranty program with RamaCare which offers additional protection and piece of mind to avoid labor costs in for both glass and hardware repair in case anything happens.
